DESCRIPTION:The Chatham County Historical Association invites you to join us for lively conversation when our Between the Lines Book Club meets to discuss Naked Genius\, by George Moses Horton\, a book of poetry first published in 1865. George Moses Horton was the first African American author to be published in the United States. Born a slave on a North Carolina tobacco plantation\, his extraordinary literary talent resulted in his being named the Poet Laureate of Chatham County\, where he spent most of his life. Between the Lines is a monthly book club that explores our local area's rich past through engaging reads that connect our local stories to the larger sweep of American history. All are welcome\, and admission is free.
